This is an Open and Continuous Announcement and will remain open until 9/30/2021 to fill current and future RN - Meg Surg & Oncology vacancies for the Syracuse VAMC. The initial cut-off date referral of eligible applicants will be 15 days from the announce open date (04/02/2021). After the initial cut off applicants will be referred as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis. Unit 6B is a 20 bed Med/Surg & Oncology Unit. Registered Nurse duties include, but not the following: Plans and delivers technically competent care to patients. Correctly performs procedures or seeks help when needed. Safely and effectively uses equipment required for patient care; Reports equipment in need of repair. Recognizes subtle abnormal signs and symptoms and/or changes in patients' condition and responds appropriately. Makes assignments and directs activities of other unit staff, (RNs, LPNs, students, PSAs, other team members). Formulates a plan of care based on nursing assessments based on the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice and seeks assistance as needed. Completes initial assessment of patient condition and response to treatment and initiates follow-up as needed. Includes the patient and family/significant other in developing the initial plan of care and establishing goals. Updates plan of care with assistance as needed. Assesses patient's learning needs, learning preference, and readiness to learn. Develops and implements a plan to meet learning needs, instructing patients and families in basic health teaching and discharge planning. Documents the nursing process. Revises plan of care according to evaluations of patient responses. Uses the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and the Bar Coded Medication Administration (BCMA) software per policy. Organizes and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner, assisting team members as necessary. Demonstrates grade-appropriate and consistent critical thinking skills. Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual nursing judgments and actions. Acts as a patient advocate. Work Schedule: Night Shift Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
