Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm Financial Discloser Report: Not required Recruitment or Relocation Incentive authorized. The Oncology Physician Assistant (PA) will be assigned to the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System in the Medical Service. The incumbent is responsible for the care and administrative needs of the oncology patients in the outpatient setting. Duties include but are not limited to: Evaluating, treating, and educating patients with various cancers. Provides effective care to patients characterized by the use of sound judgment in assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating patient care for assigned patients. Obtain thorough medical histories, perform comprehensive physical examinations, order appropriate diagnostic studies, interpret and analyze medical data, establish diagnoses, formulate and implement treatment plans, and modify treatment plans when appropriate. Assist with prescribing medications and treatment regimens within their scope of knowledge and as indicated for treatment of the above. Perform initial evaluations and physical examinations on new and follow-up oncology patients. Provide ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients. Screen outpatients to determine need for further health care. Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, and other studies necessary for the care of patients. Review diagnostic test results and implement appropriate treatment. Provide education and counseling of patients and families in the care of diagnosed cancer, and use of prescribed treatments and medications. Assist the Supervising Physician (or agent) in evaluation and management of patients. Carry out health promotion and disease prevention activities. Request non-VA care cancer consultation. Concurrence by a physician is required in before consultation may be approved. Assist other departments by providing information necessary for data collection. Perform other duties as assigned, including telemedicine activities.
