Assesses plans, organizes, performs, and evaluates nursing activities to meet the needs of the patient. Promotes adaptive responses of patient and family to achieve the highest level of patient care, promote safety, and maximize patient satisfaction. As a Radiation Oncology RN, your primary duties will be:
Performs patient assessment, patient/family teaching and triage.
Provides primary clinical support to the provider and patient to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient's condition.
Obtains and documents patient medical history, chief complaint and vital signs, provides basic medical data base for provider and prepares patient for examinations.
Performs and completes patient assessment and delegates duties to Clinic Technician. Provides direct clinical care.
Assists provider in performance of minor surgical diagnostic procedures and ancillary diagnostic examinations as directed by provider to facilitate accurate diagnosis.
Collects and prepares laboratory specimens (blood, urine, sputum, wound secretions) and completes associated paperwork (request slips, lab log, container labels, billing documents) to expedite laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency. Accesses Venous Access devices.
Executes and documents ongoing patient communication. Delivers advanced phone triage per provider. Responds to patient questions and requests to ensure efficient use of provider time and timely response to patient's needs.
Provides instruction to ensure patient's understanding of medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions. Provides instructions to students on rotation through radiation oncology.
Inserts, monitors, regulate and discontinue IVs as required by provider.
Administers medications and vaccines.
Administers blood products, IV push medications and IV fluids. Administers conscious sedation as indicated for brachytherapy procedure
Other duties as a Radiation Oncology RN:
Completes preparation of the patient according to defined procedure.
Completes patient assessment for risks for falls.
Prepares equipment and supplies for procedures using sterile technique.
Cares for equipment before, during and after procedures or as needed in department.
Performs intravenous starts and monitors intravenous therapy on designated patients.
Performs point of care testing such as urine pregnancies or blood glucose on patients as needed.
Administers medication, IV push medication and conscious sedation.
Provides post-procedure care.
Observes, interprets, reports and records signs indicative of changes in the patient's condition.
Records appropriate information to monitor patients' needs prior to procedure.
Monitors and assists patients with spinal cord stimulators.
Provides appropriate patient education to patients and caregivers.
Adheres to requirements mandated by regulatory agencies.
Assists with orientation, in-service programs and supervision of nursing students, new staff members, and dedicated staff members.
Participates in Quality Improvement activities.
Actively participates in patient safety improvement and management program.
Assumes responsibility for identifying processes or systems that could potentially lead to errors and adverse events.
Promptly reports serious events and incidents in accordance with established hospital policy and procedure.
Assumes charge nurse role on assigned, rotating basis.
Assigns staff to specific patient areas as needed, based on patient acuity.

Monday through Friday
Day Shift / 40 hours weekly
