Advanced Practice Provider General Surgery Fellowship DESCRIPTION This is a 12-month program consisting of approximately 25% operative time and 75% patient management; largely inpatient management and some clinics. The goal of this fellowship is to allow the APP fellow to obtain skills in managing patients pre, intra, and post operatively with time managing inpatients, outpatients, and operative patients. Many of the services manage very complex patients with acute and chronic illnesses. The first month of the program will be in Family Medicine. Then each rotation or block will be approximately 4 weeks in surgical specialties. Approximately 6 to 8 days per month will be operative to learn and practice first assist skills (please note, this is not an RN first-assist certification program). Current license and certification(s) Three letters of recommendation from clinical preceptors, mentors, or colleagues who worked closely with you (preferably in the inpatient hospital setting) and can speak to your clinical care. One-page personal statement describing your past surgical experiences and how the fellowship will further develop your career goals in the field of general surgery. TIMELINEApplications accepted: Jan 11, 2021 - March 8, 2021Interviews: March 15, 2021 - March 26, 2021Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, we will be conducting all interviews via Zoom this year.Notification of selection: April 9, 2021Program matriculation: August 9, 2021 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAPP student, new graduate, or experienced APP interested in a career in general surgery and must have 1) graduated from an accredited APRN (FNP/ACNP/CNS) or PA program or 2) will graduate from their current program and be licensed, certified and credentialed in time for the program start date. Under direct preceptorship, develop the skills necessary to function in internal medicine or surgical areas as an advanced practice provider. Supervision and education utilizing current advanced practice providers, internal medicine or surgical faculty, and educational resources with mentorship. Goals and priorities are in accordance with patient and staff needs and organizational objectives. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care proctorship may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups. |
