Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Division Chief for Digestive Diseases and Nutrition.

The successful candidate will provide strategic, innovative, and operational leadership, and will have responsibility and accountability for the clinical and academic performance for the Division within the Department of Internal Medicine. A strong record of collaborative leadership and commitment to excellence in clinical, research and academic service is essential. Ongoing research achievement, community engagement and educational excellence are highly desirable. The successful candidate must also be committed to mentoring faculty, trainees, and medical students. In addition, (s)he will have credentials that merit appointment as Associate Professor or Professor, will have an MD or equivalent degree, will be board certified, will possess a demonstrated commitment to innovation, and will have the leadership skills necessary for guiding faculty development and advancement across research, clinical and academic missions.

As a department leader, the Division Chief will work closely with the Department Chairperson to provide an energetic and inventive vision for maintaining and growing clinical, educational and research programs, developing strategic interdisciplinary teams for furthering research, and continuing faculty development.

The group collaborates closely, both clinically and in research, with other groups at the medical center, including:, colorectal surgery, surgical and medical oncology, with whom we support a comprehensive clinic for gastrointestinal cancers, transplant hepatology, bariatric and acute care surgery, ENT, allergy/immunology, pathology, and neurology. There is particular expertise in inflammatory bowel disease, GI oncology, functional bowel disease, celiac disease, chronobiology and motility. Further clinical and research expansion is expected in the field of gastrointestinal oncology as the new cancer center at Rush nears completion.

Rush GI has consistently been recognized as a top program across the nation and was ranked 31st (or can mention ranked in the top 50 honor roll) nationally for Gastroenterology and GI Surgery out of more than 1500 hospitals evaluated by the U.S News & World Report's Best Hospitals honor roll for 2020-21. The program accepts 3 fellows in training per year and also has an advanced therapeutic training program that accepts one 4th year fellow per year. Currently the group covers two hospitals in the system (Rush University Medical Center and Rush Oak Park Hospital) in addition to two free-standing clinical sites in South Loop downtown and Oak Brook, Illinois.
