JOB CODE INFORMATION:

The Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation therapy treatment team who is thoroughly familiar with the physical and geometrical characteristics of the radiation equipment and radioactive sources commonly employed, and has the training and expertise necessary to measure and calculate radiation doses under the direction of the Therapeutic Radiological Physicist and the Radiation Oncologist.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Accurately performs treatment plans, irregular field calculations, gap calculations, dose site calculations, and other requested calculations, in a timely manner.
• Supervises the therapy staff in the implementation of the treatment plan (correct use of beam modifiers, arrangement, geometry of beams and other beam parameters).
• Supervises, performs or assists in the planning, fabrication, and implementation of custom shields, compensators, wedges, and other beam modification devices and immobilization devices.
• Supervises and/or participates in radiotherapy treatment simulations, special dosimetry measurements or calculations, and micro-dosimetry procedures for radiation therapy treatment planning.

Often takes a lead role in highly pressurized situations when there is a need to achieve results. COMPLIANCE - (ADVANCED): - Demonstrates expert knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations as they apply to the incumbent's department and work areas. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering patient documentation services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
