The Department of Radiation Oncology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is experiencing continued growth in its clinical, research and educational enterprises. JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation therapy treatment team who is thoroughly familiar with the physical and geometrical characteristics of the radiation equipment and radioactive sources commonly employed, and has the training and expertise necessary to measure and calculate radiation doses under the direction of the Therapeutic Radiological Physicist and the Radiation Oncologist.
Accurately performs treatment plans, irregular field calculations, gap calculations, dose site calculations, and other requested calculations, in a timely manner.
Supervises the therapy staff in the implementation of the treatment plan (correct use of beam modifiers, arrangement, geometry of beams and other beam parameters).
Supervises, performs or assists in the planning, fabrication, and implementation of custom shields, compensators, wedges, and other beam modification devices and immobilization devices.
Supervises and/or participates in radiotherapy treatment simulations, special dosimetry measurements or calculations, and micro-dosimetry procedures for radiation therapy treatment planning.

COMPLIANCE - (ADVANCED): - Demonstrates expert knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations as they apply to the incumbent's department and work areas. Analyzes the rules and regulations for situations that are unusual and knows the inter- relationship and implication of various rules and regulations in other areas of the department. Understands the flow of rules and regulations beyond the work area and can converse intelligently about alternatives and make recommendations for more effective rules and regulations to senior management. May represent the company at regional industry organizations meetings for discussing rules and regulations.

Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering patient documentation services without requiring support and instruction from others.
