John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center is looking for an experienced Radiation Oncologist who is knowledgeable in the field of Proton Beam Therapy to lead and manage the newly created top-of-the-line Proton Therapy Laboratory This physician will be responsible for:
Conducting tests and examinations to confirm diagnoses.
Executing radiation treatments.
In-depth clinical exposure to radiation therapy with protons.
Competent in radiation therapy planning and delivery in patients undergoing proton radiation therapy, including use of required immobilization and CT simulation. Developing proton treatment plans which comprise the appropriate therapeutic techniques and drug dosages to be administered.
Consistently monitoring patients' progress.
Providing pharmacological treatment and suggesting appropriate lifestyle changes.
Develop and maintain relationships with referring physician and hospital partners.
Plan and execute 1 to 1 and group clinical based educational sessions for target physician groups (radiation oncologists, neurosurgeons, medical oncologists, etc.), hospitals, advocacy groups, etc. in Central NJ / NYC area and select regional markets.
Educate and influence physicians in the referral chain to the advantages of protons.
Effectively position proton therapy as an alternative treatment for patients with cancer.
Develop referral source network and ensure adoption of proton therapy in market.
Work cohesively with marketing to target specific physician specialties and practice types and create marketing materials for physicians.
Build and maintain physician referral database.
Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
Motivational and leadership skills.
A compassionate and empathetic personality.
Doctor of Medicine degree.
Completion of a Radiation Oncology residency program.
Board certification as a Radiation Oncologist.
Fellowship Proton Beam Therapy training or minimum of 5 years of independent Proton Beam prescribing/treatment.
Prior experience treating and diagnosing cancer patients.
Extensive knowledge of Radiation Therapy procedures and techniques including and not limited to:
Understanding of physical interactions of protons with tissue and understanding of treatment planning with protons
Understanding and familiarity with clinical indications for use of protons.
Understanding of differences in clinical proton and photon dosimetry.
Understanding of normal tissue constraints utilized in proton radiation therapy planning.
Understanding of clinical radiation therapy target volumes for proton radiation therapy.
Familiar with the relevant literature, which documents the most appropriate treatment strategies for patients undergoing proton radiation therapy.
Familiar with ongoing Proton Beam clinical research trials available to patients.
Knowledgeable regarding treatment outcomes as it applies to Proton Beam Therapy so that these can be discussed with the patient, family, and primary care and other involved physicians.
