Responsible for serving in a lead capacity by assisting with supervision of clinical staff; for providing leadership and orientation to clinical personnel; and for performing a variety of nursing duties in order to coordinate the delivery of care to patients. Serve as a role model, leader, consultant, collaborator, educator, and clinician within a specialty area.
The ideal candidate for the Senior Attending Nurse within the Cancer Institute outpatient clinic is a motivated & driven leader focused on the mentoring, coaching and supervision to a team of 20+ staff members including RNs and MAs in Radiation Oncology as well as the RN/LPN/MA staff in the Penn State Health Cancer Institute clinic. This individual would be responsible for daily performance/management of employees, performance evaluations & payroll. This role will be vital in ensuring a smooth patient flow throughout the Cancer Institute. Additionally, this individual would be a key person to ensure compliance readiness and would be involved in any projects to improve the patient experience. Occasionally, this nurse leader may need to staff due to call offs. Becoming ACLS and PALS certified will be necessary in case this individual needs to staff in radiation oncology. Finally, this individual will need to run reports and ensure compliance of project implementation. The work schedule for this position will include Monday-Friday, day shift with varied hours. Candidates with experience in hematology/oncology preferred but not required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a Master’s Degree in Nursing required.
3 years clinical RN experience required.
Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required.
Experience in specialty area preferred.
Certification in a specialty area preferred
Able to stand, walk and sit frequently.
Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally.
Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.
Able to reach constantly.
Able to use hands for simple/firm grasping.
