Beaumont Health is accepting applications for a one year Proton Beam Therapy Fellowship position beginning July 1, 2019. We REQUIRE successful completion of an ACGME accredited residency in Radiation Oncology by the start date of the fellowship. All applications must be received by March 31, 2019. However, the fellowship start date is negotiable. The application must include a current Curriculum Vitae, a one page personal statement articulating the candidate’s interest in proton therapy and how it fits with his/her career plans, and a recommendation letter from the applicant’s residency program director. The goals of the fellowship are to develop clinical expertise in proton therapy physics, planning, delivery and system organization, and to complete proton therapy related research projects. All active clinical treatment sites will be included in the training, including both pediatric and adult patients. Annual Salary range for this fellowship is significantly higher than average
The Beaumont Proton Therapy Center opened in July 2017. Our IBA single gantry system is the first in the US with a superconducting synchrocyclotron, and incorporates pencil beam scanning with cone beam CT and other imaging to deliver extremely precise dose distributions. The proton therapy physics team is heavily involved in development and innovation of the proton technology including pending patents and NIH grant funding. The Department of Radiation Oncology, at Beaumont Health (BH) is a fully functional academic radiation oncology center with a long-standing history of outstanding research and development, offering patients not only proton therapy but Linac-based IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SRS, SBRT, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, Adaptive Radiotherapy, a robust Brachytherapy program, and hyperthermia as well. Our facility has state of the art machines including an in-house MRI simulation suite, upcoming MR-Linac and in-house PET CT scan. This Proton Fellowship program compliments a full education program including the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, Medical Residency in Radiation Oncology, a CAMPEP approved Residency in Medical Physics, and a dosimetry training program. This Fellowship recipient will also be formally appointed an Instructor in the Department and join the medical staff of Beaumont Health with commensurate benefits
The Beaumont Proton Therapy Center is located at the Beaumont Health Royal Oak, Michigan, campus. Beaumont Health comprises an 8-hospital system. Royal Oak is a gem of a city in Southeast Michigan with quality and affordable housing approximately 15 miles north of Detroit, Michigan. It is a 20 minute drive to downtown Detroit which offers professional baseball, basketball, hockey, and football. The city of Detroit also hosts a bevy of concerts and a variety of cultural/social events throughout the year including the Detroit Institute of Art, the Detroit Opera House, Slow Roll, and River Days to name a few. Within the state of Michigan there is a large network of metropolitan and state parks that offer incredible hiking, swimming, and fishing opportunities as well as scenic views. The greater suburban Detroit area is also extremely diverse, growing, and ideal for raising a family with outstanding and nationally recognized schools.
