The Penn State Cancer Institute (PSCI), a dynamic hub of cancer research, care, and outreach, seeks candidates for the position of Associate Director for Clinical Research. PSCI is operates within a world class health system and a formidable research University, and serves 4.5 million people in central Pennsylvania with over 150 open clinical trials conducted in a state-of-the-art clinical and research facility. With an integrated structure and a highly collegial orientation, PSCI faculty and staff share goals of growth and excellence. The next Associate Director for Clinical Research will contribute to the development of a flourishing, young cancer institute seeking NCI designation through the advancement of its clinical research program.
As a member of the senior executive leadership team, the Associate Director for Clinical Research provides oversight, management and strategic planning of clinical research activity within PSCI. Serving as an administrative officer, the Associate Director reports directly to the Director of the Cancer Institute, and is eligible for an endowed chair. With a primary goal to further grow and sustain clinical research in oncology, the Associate Director will place particular emphasis on building a strong portfolio of investigator-initiated research. Success in this role will also include the development and strategic implementation of an operations plan that improves efficiencies of the clinical trials office, increasing patient accruals, and nurturing existing and new collaborations across the medical campus and the University at large.
The successful candidate will have earned a distinguished record of scholarship and a terminal degree in clinical science, although an MD is preferred. The new Associate Director must have a track record of federally-funded clinical research and proven experience in furthering the development and growth of effective and efficient clinical and translational research programs. Demonstrably strong leadership and management capabilities are required, as is a record of accomplishment in the support of diversity, inclusion, teaching, and fundraising.
