The duties and responsibilities of this position will consist of performing and providing clinical care to patients with cancer diseases and other conditions treated with radiotherapy, including Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS); Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT); brachytherapy; radiopharmaceuticals; and external beam modalities.
Traditional duties of an academic clinical faculty member include excellence in teaching; research activity, including publications in scholarly, refereed journals and presentations at learned societies; service to the Department, School, University and profession; and any other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
This is a fixed-term position. Title is commensurate with qualifications.
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Brody School of Medicine is part of the Health Sciences Division at East Carolina University, a member of the University of North Carolina state school system.
Department faculty are actively involved in multidisciplinary disease teams to provide clinical care, research, and teaching of medical students and fellows.
The Department co-sponsors an accredited Medical Physics graduate program and residency with the ECU Department of Physics.
The Department has four affiliated community practices in North Carolina on an integrated ARIA/Eclipse network, facilitating coordination of care and quality standardization.
The Brody School of Medicine is closely affiliated with Vidant Health System, whose flagship tertiary hospital, Vidant Medical Center, provides the primary teaching hospital for the medical school. Vidant Medical Center is building a 6-story, 96-bed, 418,000 square foot Cancer Center which will open in March 2018.
This Center includes a new Radiation Oncology clinical department which will be among the most state of the art in the Southeastern region. Technologies in the department will include two Varian TrueBeam linacs equipped with Optical Surface Imaging, Calypso, respiratory gating and 6DoF couch, a Varian Edge stereotactic linac, an M6 CyberKnife, an HDR brachytherapy suite, a GE CT simulator and a fifth vault configured for an MRI-linac.
The outpatient facility will also house multispecialty clinics, a 60-chair infusion center, patient support services, a women's imaging center, pharmacy, conference space and healing gardens. The integrated bed tower will accommodate all oncology inpatients in the floors above the ambulatory facility.
The medical center also houses a GammaKnife Perfexion unit in a separate facility with a dedicated MRI and patient support space.
MD or DO;
Board Certified/Board Eligible as a Radiation Oncologist.
Preferred Education and Experience:.
Experience with and commitment to clinical research and clinical trials.
Experience and expertise with conventional and state of the art Radiation Oncology techniques, procedures, and treatment protocols, to include Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT); Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT); SBRT; SRS; Brachytherapy; radiopharmaceuticals; GammaKnife and/or CyberKnife is desired.
