Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC), a large public teaching hospital, affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine, in San Jose CA, is seeking a part-time BC/BE radiation oncologist to join our dynamic Division of Radiation Oncology.
We offer the unparalleled opportunity to gain the long-term personal and professional satisfaction of serving our patients and the public, while teaching the next generation of health care providers, in one of the best places to live in the United States.
About the organization
Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital System (SCVHHS) is the second-largest County-owned health and hospital system in California and is committed to improving the health of the 1.8 million people of Santa Clara County. As an integrated health care system, SCVHHS includes a 574-bed central hospital, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, a large primary care network comprised of 10 health centers throughout the County (including our newest center in downtown San Jose, which opened in 2016), a broad-range of specialty services, a large behavioral health department, public health, EMS, and Valley Health Plan.
SCVMC itself hosts five residency training programs and partners with Stanford University Medical Center for the training of residents and fellows in many Stanford-based specialties. SCVMC also features a Level 1 Trauma Center, Burn Center, Primary Stroke Center, and a CARF-accredited Rehabilitation Center. Owing to its geographic location and specialty offerings, SCVMC not only serves the County, but also the larger region.
About the community
SCVMC is located in San Jose, California in the heart of Silicon Valley, offering a diverse choice of cultural, recreational, and lifestyle opportunities. Our physicians live in a range of communities, including urban (e.g., San Francisco), university (e.g., Palo Alto), high tech (e.g., many cities of Silicon Valley), mountain (e.g., Los Gatos), beach (e.g. Santa Cruz), and rural/agricultural (e.g., Gilroy). Situated in one of the most desirable regions of the country – only 45 minutes from the Monterey Bay and three hours from the Sierra Nevada – our physicians enjoy a very high quality of life.
About the Department of Radiation Oncology
The department is a part of the Sobrato Cancer Center at SCVMC, which is a QOPI-certified practice. Co-located within the Cancer Center are medical oncology and GYN oncology colleagues, as well as a 21-chair infusion center. The department has two vaults equipped with a Varian Trilogy and a Varian 2100CD (the latter will be replaced with a TrueBeam Radiotherapy system later this year); a GE Lightspeed RT CT simulator; a Varian RPM system; and a MIMvista imaging station. We also treat gynecologic patients using a Varisource HDR brachytherapy remote afterloader. The department employs 5 radiation therapists, 1 medical physicist, 1 medical dosimetrist, 1 nurse practitioner, 2 RNs, and 2 medical assistants.
We are looking for a motivated individual to join two other radiation oncologists who treated over 400 patients in 2016. The successful candidate is BC/BE in Radiation Oncology, has experience with IMRT/IGRT, SABR, SRS, and HDR brachytherapy. The ideal candidate would be available to start work immediately upon completion of credentialing. Experience with EPIC-based EMR is a plus.
