UNC HIRING ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDER W/ INPATIENT GYN ONCOLOGY FOCUS
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for a fixed-term faculty appointment as a Clinical Instructor, to work on the Gynecologic Oncology inpatient unit.
The person in this position will be an active partner with the Gyn Oncology Team, comprised of the Attending of the Week, GYN oncology fellows in training and OB-GYN residents rotating on the Gyn Oncology service. He/she will be engaged in the comprehensive management of women on the inpatient Gyn Oncology service at UNC Women’s Hospital. This will include communication and coordination of care for pre- and post-operative admissions, medical admissions (chemotherapy, neutropenic fevers, etc.), inpatient consultations and end of life care and coordination. Additional responsibilities will include participating in daily floor rounds and discharge planning (care management, home health services, etc.) Although there are no expected outpatient care requirements associated with this position, patients may be seen in the ER and/or clinic as they prepare for their inpatient admission.
There will be active opportunities to both learn from and teach with the team, including the attendings, fellows, residents, medical students, and nurses on the inpatient floor. Actively teaching our patients and their families will also be critically important.
The work schedule for this position will be a 40-hour week, Mondays through Fridays, hours may vary. There is no call or weekend work for this position. There will be some cross-coverage on the benign GYN consult service when the APP on that service is on vacation, etc. However, the primary assignment will be on the GYN Oncology service.
A Master’s degree as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant is required.
Qualifications and Experience:
Prior experience in women’s OB-GYN health, an in-patient GYN care setting, an in-patient oncology setting or an inpatient surgical care setting is preferred, but not required. Fluency in Spanish is also preferred, but not required.
Special Physical and Mental Requirements:
The successful applicant must be physically and mentally fit to actively work in the inpatient setting with patients who present with a variety of GYN Oncology issues and concerns, including terminal illness.
